MacIntosh Resources
This folder contains various virtualization and emulation resources for the MacIntosh OS X.
-
Fink
- The Fink project aims to bring the full world of Unix Open Source software to Darwin and Mac OS X. Fink modifies Unix software so that it compiles and runs on Mac OS X ("port" it) and makes it available for download as a coherent distribution. Fink uses Debian tools like dpkg and apt-get to provide powerful binary package management. Users can choose to download pre-compiled binary packages or build everything from source.
-
Darwin
- Mac OS X is a UNIX-based operating system with modern GUI and application support frameworks layered on top. The lowest layer, Darwin, includes the kernel, device drivers and driver support frameworks, a BSD personality layer, and various libraries and command-line utilities. The Darwin layers of Mac OS X are open source. This provides a resource for open source development efforts (such as Linux and BSD variants) to make their software available on Mac hardware. This folder contains resources related to Darwin used to allow Mac users to install and run software not specifically targeted for OS X.

Emulation and Virtualization Solutions
- The terms virtualization and emulation describes an operating system running in an environment that it thinks is a PC. Normally, an operating system controls an entire PC. With virtualization and emulation, you can run several operating systems, such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Linux, all at the same time, within Mac OS X. The advantage of this approach is that gives you the ability to switch between Windows and Mac OS X (or other OS's) without rebooting. You can move files between the different operating systems and even copy and paste between Windows and Macs applications.
